Howard University women’s soccer team tied with rival Hampton, 0-0, despite several opportunities in Norfolk, Va.
With the tie, the Bison remain unblemished (1-0-1) while Hampton moved to 0-1-1 on the young season.
Howard outshot the Lady Pirates, 14-3, led by forwards Melea Earley (La Mirada, Calif.) and Gabrielle Garcia-Terrell (Centreville, Va.) each attempting four shots in the stalemate.
Sophomore forward Mimi Richards (Silver Spring, Md.) had the best look nearly 16 minutes into the contest, but the Lady Pirates’ backline delivered a team save and kept the game scoreless.
Despite holding possession for two-thirds of the contests, the Bison were unable to get a shot by Hampton goalie Kaitlyn Howell, who finished the match with three saves.
Rookie Hailey Ayers (Lorton, Va.) made her first collegiate start at goalie, registering a shutout tie in 90 minutes of action.
Thursday (Aug. 22), the Bison return to Greene Stadium to host George Mason in a nonconference showdown on International night. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
